The Iowa Supreme Court ruled that bosses can fire employees they see as an “irresistible attraction,” even if the employees have not engaged in flirtatious behavior or otherwise done anything wrong.

The Associated Press reported that the all-male court ruled on Friday that a dentist acted legally when he fired an assistant that he found attractive simply because he and his wife viewed the woman as a threat to their marriage.

I don’t get the point of this segment.

Morning sickness, no matter what you call it, is fucking unpleasant to the point of being intolerable in the best of situations.

It can reach incredibly dangerous levels. Hypermesis is the term when it reaches a point that you’ve started to lose weight (guess what! You NEED to gain weight during pregnancy, not LOSE it) and body fluids in an amount that endangers both mother and baby. You pretty much need hospitalisation for it in order to be replenished with fluids and to be monitored to make sure you don’t miscarry.

What really irks me is that this is being played up as if Kate is some fucking fragile flower for being hospitalised for this. You know what? If this shit happened to men, no one would be joking. But it’s a “women’s” problem. We should just buck up and take it and learn to suck it up.

I had so-called morning sickness (guess what, it doesn’t always come in the morning) for five full months. I lost more weight than was conducive to be pregnant. I was hospitalised twice, both for dehydration, and once because I was in danger of miscarriage.

So, I give a rounding ‘fuck you’ to Jon here, and anyone else who is making a mockery of this.

This is a fucking serious condition. A person who has this begins to literally starve because they can’t get enough nutrients to survive. It’s not uncommon that the patient is forced to terminate to spare their own life. It’s not a joke, and it doesn’t make her fucking weak because it happened to her.

Blah, I don’t have enough energy to give a proper rant about this but a big FUCK YOU to anyone infantilizing her for this.

I get that the oversaturation of info about the royals is ridiculous but this is actually a serious condition and I hope she gets through it ok. Poor thing.

That’s my thought about it too — i would totally use it to expose a shitbag, and i think it can be useful.

But i also understand the point about how it could enforce rape culture — “well, why didn’t you use one of those new cups?”

I think the problem ppl had with that post is not the cup detector itself, but how the op disingenuously said it can “fix that rape culture problem.” Tbh, it sounded kind of condescending.

It’s a tool that can be used for self-protection while living within rape culture, but a drug rape detector, by itself, won’t end it. What will end rape culture is when rapists stop raping and using date rape drugs. Until then, tools like this can help, but it can’t really deconstruct rape culture by itself.

And just a thought — rapists will do anything to get their targets. They might find other means to violate others. If date rape drugs can’t be used, then they might use more coercion or manipulation tactics. Drug food. Find ways around it. So i’m cautious of calling this date rape drug detector THE answer to rape culture.

2 reasons why I don’t feel like that cup actually attacks rape culture

1- rape culture doesn’t hinge on an absence of proof. proof isn’t the issue. people try to make it about that, but it’s really about a tacit agreement among most of society that people who’re are raped (mainly women and girls) are gonna be held to an incredibly high burden of proof… because patriarchy/misogyny/transmisogyny.

2- it literally accommodates (& somewhat reinforces) one of the key tenants on which rape culture hinges—the notion that rape is inevitable or is “just a thing that happens” that women must work to avoid… as opposed to the much more radical notion of teaching men/(people) not to rape

The cup in question once again puts the onus on someone else ( the potential victim, a bartender, etc. ) to prevent a rape. It’s not about making rape unacceptable, it’s about finding a way to avoid rape as if it’s a natural hazard.

So, let’s say a person does not have access to this cup or goes to an establishment or party where these cups are not present. What happens when they’re raped? “Well, why didn’t you have that cup?! Why did you have a drink if it wasn’t in that cup?!”

Someone else mentioned putting all that money towards something else like a PSA campaign to teach men not to rape, classes for men teaching them about rape culture and what rape is and how to not do it. Those things tackle rape culture.

Finding ways to adapt to rape culture doesn’t help current victims and doesn’t stop more people from becoming victims.

So for anyone who asks why I keep doing Facebook Friday - THIS is why. Dismembering women into literally two objects and deciding which half you would screw and subjugate is considered appropriate conversation. 

To all future employers of Matti Parker, Luke Osgood, Werner Hartweger, Andrew Clark, Paul Pettigrove, and John A Sloan (as well as the other two who were at least smart enough to not use their real names) - this is what they think of women. This is what they think is acceptable behavior in public for all to see. 

Noticed none of the men commenting referred to the woman as a woman or even human, they all called her “it”.

You can go over to the Mary Sue and read more but here’s the short version. Over the last 24 hours a post the James Gunn, the director helming the next Marvel movie “Guardians of the Galaxy” created about “The 50 Superheroes You want to have sex with” was dug up.

And what a post it is! Filled with the kind of language I am sure the management of Disney who own Marvel will be thrilled to see!

Beware this is pretty awful slut shaming language with a extra dose of disgusting homophobia.

And like many of these polls (such as one run by a “humor” site whose name I will not repeat as to not have their followers come back and harass me after I called them out and ended their fun.) it’s not funny. 

Of course, when the word starting spreading and the shit hit the fan the writer, director James Gunn, did what many people do when caught doing something that perhaps they regret - he deleted it.

Sadly, as smart a dude as he may be, he wasn’t aware of Google Cache.

So what to do? 

Well you could plan on boycotting the movie. But that won’t be out until 2014.

So in the short term perhaps a note to Disney and let them know your concerns. I would think this gentleman might be a good person to send a polite letter:
